Paper Crafting Monthly Blog Hop -- Sale-A-Bration

Hello friends!

It's that time again, welcome to our monthly Paper Crafting Blog Hop featuring projects from talented Independent Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators from around the world. We share fun projects and various design styles each month. You may have arrived from Sue Boerner’s blog. What a great project!

Sale-a-Bration (SAB) items are featured in our projects this month; SAB products are free with qualifying orders. My card features the SAB Happy Birthday to You stamp set along with a technique using the Parisian Flourish 3D embossing folder. I've heard -- and I believe it -- free stamps stamp better!

A friend shared a Gina K video tutorial with me for creating backgrounds using a wax paper technique, inspiring my card (click here for Gina K's video tutorial). I had never heard or seen this wax paper technique before and couldn't wait to give it a whirl! Although the video tutorial recommends crumpling the wax paper before embossing, I found it wasn't necessary with the Parisian Flourish 3D embossing folder I used. I embossed 3 pieces of wax paper at one go which made 6 backgrounds.

You'll notice that the background design is not as prominent in some places - my ironing skills are not the best - but I think it just adds character! The pattern from the embossing folder is brought out by sponging with Highland Heather.

I fussy cut the cake image before coloring it lightly in some spots with blends. Coordinating dies are now available for the Happy Birthday to You set so the cake with flowers, the flowers, and cake stand can be die cut separately. Yay for coordinating products!

What technique has struck your fancy lately? Leave me a comment and let me know. I love learning about new techniques!

The video tutorial recommends using 2 pieces of white cardstock for each piece of wax paper. I sponged Mint Macaron on my second piece, again showing my poor ironing skills...I'll be using this background on another card soon.
